Pest Control For Ant’s In Alice Springs
In case you don’t know, Alice Springs is built on a giant ants nest, or so it seems!! We have more ants and more varieties than anywhere I know. It’s not all bad news though.
Ant Control and Treatment
We will concentrate on the main culprits below. We have attempted to cover only the main ants that we deal with in Alice Springs on a daily basis. If you would like a treatment booked in please call us on 8953 5562
THE BIG HEADED ANT
This very small ant is an import from South Africa and is related to the Fire ant, Singapore ant and other species. It is easily recognised by its soldier ant which has a very large head. (Hence big headed ant) The problem sometimes is that the soldiers are scarce. (About every 50 to 100 ants). They are taking over Alice Springs in large numbers. It wasn’t long ago that only Larapinta, Golf course estate, Gillen and Araluen were the effected areas. Now they are almost everywhere including Ilparpa, Ross Highway area and everywhere in between.
INDOOR BLACK ANT
THE NEXT MAIN CULPRIT IS THE INDOOR BLACK ANT
This little guy often appears out of the back of your pantry, light fitting, hole in a corner and is often seen tracking up the outside wall into the roof space. He gives the impression sometimes that he lives outside and is coming in when in most cases he is in the roof space and is coming out.
TREATMENT
This guy is the hardest to get especially if you have a flat roof (no access hole) or if your roof space has insulation. Thankfully we have developed a way of treating them easily and safely that works. So much so that we give you a 12 month warranty.
MEAT ANT (BULL ANT)
THIRD IN LINE IS THE MEAT ANT (BULL ANT)
This is one that is in large numbers, black, about 1cm (1/2 inch) in length and his nest is usually situated on a bare patch of ground with lots of small holes in it. THIS GUY BITES (AND IT HURTS) (Not to be confused with the Desert ant which has a mound with a slot in the top)
TREATMENT
This guy is easy to fix and in expensive. We get bitten very often whilst doing this so only ring me when you really have to. 🙂
HOW TO RECOGNISE THEM??
They are very small, often ginger or dark in colour with the telltale soldier head being larger than the rest. They LOVE water. As a result you will find them in your sink, kettle, bath, under pot plants, around drippers and sprinklers in gardens and anywhere there is a water source. I have even been told by clients that they showed up in wet washing in the laundry basket, a glass of water next to the bed and even in one lady’s hair after she washed it but went to bed whilst is was still wet!!! Another common one is they kick up the sand between pavers and along the edge of buildings where the concrete path meets the house/unit.

ANT AND COMMON BLACK
THE DESERT ANT AND COMMON BLACK ANT BRING UP THE REAR.
The common black ant makes little holes every couple of feet and join these holes with thousands of little black ants. The Desert ant make mounds with a ‘coin’ slot on the top (Often on the nature strip) which are usually always joined together with other nests. Desert ants come in different colours but usually black and they are not known to bite. They will however as will the small black ants make very long trips to find food. (Or the dog bone)
TREATMENT
This is the same as the meat ant. The difference is “it is like shooting ducks in a barrel” and THEY DON’T BITE ME. So if you have these ones I am more than happy to get them all for you. We also give a 6 month warranty on these guys.
